Two years postponed. One perfect May afternoon. And a couple who’d already felt like friends long before the day arrived.

Some weddings arrive with history attached. Rosie and Dave had waited two years for this one – postponed, rescheduled, held onto through a period when nobody could be certain of anything. By the time 12th May 2022 came around, the day had a weight to it that most weddings don’t carry. Not heaviness – the opposite. The kind of accumulated anticipation that, when it finally releases, turns into pure joy.

I knew them before I photographed them. They’d come to me through friends whose wedding I’d already shot – the same tight group, the same warmth, the same instinct to just get on with people. By the day itself it felt less like a professional arrangement and more like showing up for friends.

The Ceremony – Outdoor Courtyard

The outdoor courtyard ceremony at Gosfield Hall is one of the most characterful settings the venue offers. The iconic blue doors, the period brickwork, the sense of being enclosed within something genuinely old – it creates a frame that the couple simply step into. Rosie and Dave had clear skies, which in May is never guaranteed, and the light through the courtyard that afternoon was exactly what you’d hope for.

The Day

With a couple this relaxed and a venue I know as well as Gosfield Hall, the day moved exactly as it should – fluidly, with room for everything. The parkland, the lake, the grounds in their May best. The kind of spring afternoon that justifies every couple who books an outdoor ceremony and hopes for the best.

You made us feel so comfortable, gave us great tips and captured the best shots I’ve ever seen in my life. I just wish we could do it all over again. You’ve become a friend over the years and it means the world that you were there to share and capture the day for us.”
