Where to Stay for Your Gosfield Hall Wedding

The venue is stunning. It’s also in the middle of nowhere. Here’s how to sort your guests out.

Gosfield Hall sits in its own grounds on the Essex countryside – which is exactly what makes it so beautiful to photograph, and exactly what makes accommodation worth planning carefully. There’s no jumping in a cab at midnight and being home in ten minutes. Your guests are going to need somewhere to stay, and the sooner that’s on your radar the better.

I’ve photographed a number of weddings at Gosfield Hall and I know the venue well. After a long day there I’ve seen guests scrambling for taxis to places they’ve found last minute – and I’ve also seen couples who had this completely sorted months in advance, leaving their guests free to just enjoy the evening. The difference is noticeable.

Here’s a rundown of the best options, from on-site through to the nearest towns.

Gosfield Hall itself

The obvious starting point. Gosfield Hall has 23 suites on site – 14 double rooms and nine family rooms – which means a good portion of your closest guests can simply walk back to their room at the end of the night. For a venue this rural, that’s genuinely valuable.

There’s also something to be said for the morning after – guests who’ve stayed on site tend to linger over breakfast and give you one last chance to relive the day together before everyone heads home.

The Marquis – Gosfield village

A couple of minutes’ drive from the Hall, The Marquis offers nine en-suite bedrooms, a private bar, lounge and dining facilities in a recently refurbished Grade I listed building. It’s a good option for guests who want to be close but don’t need to be on the estate itself – and at a lower price point than the Hall’s own rooms, it works well as a budget-conscious alternative.

Worth noting: it’s also a sensible spot for the groom and groomsmen the night before, keeping travel to the venue minimal on the morning of the wedding.

The Annexe at Gosfield Lake Resort

About a mile from the Hall, the Annexe at Gosfield Lake Resort is limited on rooms – so early booking is essential if you want to point guests in this direction. Prices start from around £90 per night for a double or twin room. The proximity is its main selling point, particularly for families who want to be close by.

The Bull Hotel – Halstead

About ten minutes’ drive away in the centre of Halstead, The Bull is a pub with accommodation – solid, reliable and well-connected to the area. Guests staying here can have breakfast before heading to the wedding or use it as a base to head home from the following morning. Not the most glamorous option, but well-priced and convenient.

Holiday Inn Express – Braintree

Around five to six miles from Gosfield Hall just off the A120, the Holiday Inn Express at Braintree is a straightforward, flexible option for guests who want something easy to book and easy to get to. Taxis from Braintree into Gosfield are readily available, and the town has good road links for guests travelling from further afield.

Premier Inn – Braintree

The Premier Inn at Braintree is a ten-minute taxi ride from Gosfield and does exactly what it says – reliable, comfortable, well-priced. Food on site courtesy of the Mulberry Tree restaurant makes the morning-after straightforward. A solid choice for guests who just want somewhere easy.

Travelodge – Braintree

The Travelodge in Braintree town centre is the most budget-friendly option on this list and about five miles from the Hall. Parking is limited on-site but 24-hour parking nearby is available at a modest cost. Braintree station is a short walk away for guests arriving by train. If you have guests travelling on a tight budget, this is worth pointing them towards.
